Split Rock Lighthouse Camping Trip - North Shore, MN

I am now back at Stout with my friend and we need a vacation. It's about 2 months into the school year and I have enjoyed catching up with my old friends and making new ones...even finding myself an awesome dude I can call my boyfriend. So like any other college student would want to do, we decided to leave town and head North for the forest. Be in nature for a while instead of the dorms or Menomonie, WI. My friend Alyssa and I planned our trip and meal prepped for all the guys coming with.

We headed north after classes and didn't make it to our campsite till nightfall and let me tell you, restless college students unpacking vehicles in the cold rain after driving all day went a lot smoother than you think. Of course, crack open a beer and setting up camp will go by in a breeze. We ended up catching a second wind and stayed up late talking and playing some card games with the fire as our only light and the dark woods surrounding us. We made dinner of brats and chips and enjoyed our first night.

The following day we had some hiking planned out and sight seeing along the shore. After a failed attempt at making cinnamon rolls over the fire because Alyssa ad I were too busy exploring the campsite for the first time we decided we needed a plan b.

We first ate at Betty's Pies for brunch and fuel to start our day. Afterwards we headed down to Gooseberry Falls to checkout Gooseberry River as it flowed down to Lake Superior. The rain of the day held up on us so we could hike and take a few pictures on the trail and enjoy the cold water.

I think everyone enjoyed the hike around the falls and the crisp cool air was catching up on us as it started to get colder and warned us of another rain storm coming. We headed back to camp to make a late lunch and relax the rest of the evening. Which snuck up on us and lured us to sleep. We went for a midnight hike to the lake and listened to the waves crash onto shore but ended up calling it a night afterwards as we were very tired from our day's adventure. Although the trip was short, it was memorable and set the tone for the rest of the semester.
